pumping and purification plant

The interior of this plant seemed more like a futuristic spaceship. But this vessel was grounded, abandoned and unable to fly. What happened to the crew? There were signs of former existence- papers strewn about, fluorescent lights flickering in empty rooms. In the control room, meters, gauges, switches, and buttons adorned long rows of cabinets. A few of these devices were still ticking and spitting electricity. Metal stairways led from level to level, leading higher and higher still into the cavernous space that amplified the constant sounds of dripping water. Pumps were still grinding, water was still running. What happened to the crew? Returning to ground level, I decided to investigate further down. Rusted steps led right into the flooded basement. I peered down into the murky waters, half-expecting to see an elongated cranium rise from the depths- a slime-covered alien lurking in the darkness, waiting for the right moment to shoot up the metal railing, grab me with its talons and drag me back to join the missing crew as another host for its young. They'll have send a second expedition.
