spider's lair

[January 2002]

Opting out of dark attics and dusty corners, this spider has decided to spin its web on the trestle over an abandoned rail line. From this vantage point, it has much to observe: the bustle of the beverage distribution centers nestled under the el, locals with stringless tennis racquets professing to be on their way to pick up a game, and demented visitors climbing towers in search of high-quality bolts.

What stares down from above?   Perhaps in cooperation with the spider,
this talisman guards the tracks.

shredded tracks   among the splinters, old pop-top lids

jackpot!   a train crawls by

Notice the spider's 'head'-
it seems to be a WWI helmet
stepping closer to the web

trees make their home on the tracks
